Hey there, soon-to-be-weds!
If you’ve ever wondered how some couples have those jaw-dropping, scroll-stopping wedding photos… it’s not just filters and fancy cameras. As someone who’s been in the wedding photography game for years (hi, I'm Hitesh from Talking Pictures by Hitesh – Wedding Photographer based out of Mumbai, India), I've seen what works — and what couples wish they’d known earlier.
Here are 5 secrets to getting best wedding photos, coming from an experienced wedding photographer - who's seen it all.
These tips will make a huge difference in how your wedding photos and videos turn out.
Lighting is Everything – Like, Everything
Great lighting is the secret sauce to dreamy, flattering photos. That golden-hour glow just before sunset? Pure magic. Natural light gives you that warm, glowing, straight-out-of-a-movie vibe. If you’re indoors, think fairy lights, candles, or warm bulbs to add depth and romance. Avoid Red, green, blue, magenta etc leds.
Hot Tip: Time your outdoor shoot to catch that golden glow. Your photos will thank you!
Give Your Photographer Some Quality Time
I get it — weddings are hectic, especially here in India! But carving out at least 30–45 minutes for couple portraits makes a HUGE difference. The more relaxed you are, the better the photos. Trust your wedding photographer to guide you and make it fun, not stiff. Extra set of pictures have never harmed anyone, have they?!
Your Decor Matters! It is Our Backdrop.
Think of your decor like a stage. Coordinated themes, uncluttered spaces, and intentional design make your photos pop. Want it rich and romantic? Go bold with florals and textures. Want to wrap it up under a budget? Go heavy on fairy lights / candles / Filament bulbs to add that bokeh look!
Hot Tip: Include your photographer in your decor discussions to get a perspective on how things look on camera.
Colour Coordination = Photo Magic
The colours you wear play a big role in the overall mood of your wedding photos. Trust me — your outfits affect your photos way more than you think. Soft pastels or earthy tones? Elegant and timeless. Bright, vibrant colors? Full of joy and energy. Either way, choose a palette that complements the decor and each other. Give this some time - Think about how your outfits will pop in photos.
Trust the Vibe
This one’s big — go with a photographer you vibe with. Comfort and trust = authentic moments captured. If you’re relaxed, your photos will reflect that. You should feel totally comfortable with your photographer. You’ll spend more time with us than most of your guests! When we vibe, that’s when the real, candid magic happens.
At Talking Pictures by Hitesh, I love keeping things light, fun, and real — so you look and feel like you on your big day.
Your wedding is your story — and your photos are the only thing (besides your spouse!) that last long after the day ends. Whether you’re tying the knot in Mumbai or somewhere else in India or Internationally, these five little things go a long way in making your wedding photography and films (cinematography) unforgettable.
